Marrakech in March

Hello, fellow travelers! It’s your favorite globetrotter, Dorothy Rich, back with another exciting journey. This time, I explored the magical city of Marrakech, Morocco. Known for its bustling souks, stunning palaces, and beautiful gardens, Marrakech is a city that should be on everyone’s travel bucket list. But, beyond these well-known sites, lies a plethora of hidden gems that are yet to be discovered by the average tourist. I have spent a week unearthing these lesser-known spots, and I’m thrilled to share them with you.

1. The Secret Garden

Just a stone’s throw away from the chaotic Jemaa el-Fnaa Square, you’ll find an oasis of calm and tranquility – The Secret Garden. This historic riad is a perfect blend of Islamic and exotic Moroccan-style gardens. It’s an excellent place to escape the midday heat and enjoy a cup of traditional Moroccan mint tea.

2. Maison de la Photographie

If you’re a photography enthusiast like me, then Maison de la Photographie is a must-visit. This small museum is filled with a fascinating collection of black and white photographs depicting Moroccan life from the 1870s to the 1950s. It’s a wonderful opportunity to delve into Morocco’s rich history and culture.

3. Amal Women’s Training Center

Combine your love for food and social causes at the Amal Women’s Training Center. This restaurant and training center provides disadvantaged women with culinary skills to secure a better future. You can enjoy a delicious meal or take part in their cooking classes to learn how to make traditional Moroccan dishes.

4. Le Jardin Secret

Another hidden gem in the heart of Marrakech is Le Jardin Secret. This historic palace, with its stunning Islamic gardens, is a peaceful retreat from the bustling city. Take a leisurely stroll through the gardens, enjoy the beautiful architecture, or simply soak in the serene atmosphere.

5. Gueliz

Escape the traditional medina and head to Gueliz, Marrakech’s modern district. Here you’ll find art galleries, boutiques, and hip cafes. Don’t miss the Yves Saint Laurent Museum, a tribute to the fashion legend’s love for the city.

6. The Beldi Country Club

Just 15 minutes from Marrakech, you’ll find the Beldi Country Club. This eco-friendly resort is built entirely of local materials and blends seamlessly with the surrounding nature. You can spend the day lounging by the pool, exploring the rose gardens, or indulging in a traditional hammam.

7. The Anima Garden

My last recommendation is the Anima Garden, a magical and artistic space created by Austrian artist Andre Heller. The garden is a fusion of art and nature, with sculptures scattered among the exotic plants and trees. It’s an absolute feast for the senses.

All these hidden gems of Marrakech offer unique and authentic experiences, allowing you to see a different side of the city. Remember, the magic of travel lies not only in visiting the popular attractions but also in discovering the less-traveled paths. So, the next time you’re in Marrakech, take the road less traveled, and you might just find a hidden gem worth sharing.

Until next time, happy travels!
